Take a Break

Written by Cllr Tony Gillam on Tue 13th May 2008

At last the County Council have seen sense and voted to keep the Handicruisers. Local campaigners Ted and Christine of Take a Break Carers have worked tirelessly to save the specially adapted coach which is offered for hire to all organisations who want to ensure that their disabled members and their friends can travel in style and comfort.

Take a Break had been told by the County Council that the service was being withdrawn and that the Take a Break holiday in October had to be cancelled. Ted contacted your local Liberal Democrat Councillors at their monthly surgery and asked for help.

We sprang into action and did what we could. Now the County have decided to keep the coach, transfer it to Adult Services Department and expand its usage to other, similar groups. When Ted gave us this news he said "we could not have done it without your help". It is so good to hear that such a worthwhile service is safe.
